Jake's Lifestory

We are saddened to announce that Jake passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the age of 86. The angels have taken him to Heaven to be with his special companion Alvina Gelmich; his daughter, Elaine; parents, Joseph and Anne; brother, Henry; sisters, Otillia Donauer, Martha Kuntz, Kate Seitz and Anne Weimer; grandsons, John Volk and Trevor Costron, as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Leona Volk, Shirley Costron, Lorne (Beverly) Kuntz, Corinne Kuntz, Harvey (Debby) Kuntz, Roberta Kuntz, Rita (Gordon)Matt, Calvin (Lorna Hancock Small) Kuntz,and their mother Lydia Kuntz (nee Weichel); Debbie Gelmich and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Martin) Kress and Margaret (Lawrence)Schaeffer and numerous nieces and nephews. Jake was born and raised in Kendal, SK where he farmed for a time and later settled in Regina. He worked at Regina Hospital Laundry Services until his retirement and during that time served as an RWDSU union representative. Throughout his life Jake enjoyed carpentry, painting, upholstery and gardening; he loved music and dancing, playing cards and playing darts. He was a long-time member and President of the Army Navy Veterans Club. Family and friends gathered to celebrate Jake's life on February 17, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
